Body image parable - Whale or mermaid.

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

The story goes, a woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way:

"Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness.
They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia.
They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist.

But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish?
They would have no sex life and could not bear children.
Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad.
And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side?

Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale.

At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies.
We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated.
Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?! "

    2. Isn't the whole post about taking a marketing phrase "literally"?

  3. If you don't accept people for who they are inside then you just aren't worth knowing. Love people for who they are not what they are.

  4. I'm all about people feeling comfortable in their own skin, and we shouldn't for a certain body image on anyone. HOWEVER, being overweight isn't healthy. It isn't good for your body, and can cause a lot of health issues. So instead of focusing on how we look, we should focus on our health and that is what's important. I am not the skinniest of chicks, and I'm not the biggest either. I work out (not as often as I probably should) but my doctor says that I am healthy. I saw a post the other day that said "If we say that cigarettes are unhealthy, no one bats an eye, but if we say being fat is unhealthy then everyone loses their minds" Its true and I wish more women would try to be healthy and not hide behind the "big is beautiful" motto.

  6. I always find women who are slightly large have more kindness, smiles more often, and even warm and sexy.

  7. The body has bones, muscles and fat. we can't change our bone size. We can add to our muscle size and when we eat to excess or have a bad thyroid, we tend to increase our fat content. Extra weight is not healthy. The writer of this letter is quite intelligent but I'm sure that her weight has nothing to do with that. That letter shows that to compensate her image of being an overweighted person she has come up with a good alibi. She is in denial and that is that but for her psychological well-being she has reached a verdict in her mind to why she has all this weight and it doesn't matter to her if she is thin or fat, maybe. With a thin body, you can do more physical things and enjoy more sports, possibly live longer too. We, however are on this earth for a short time then we go to wherever spirits go and we don't take anything with us including our extra fat.

That's thoroughly fucked up logic. Good luck. You need it.

    1. That's just to combat the excessive pressure women have to face to fit into a societal image of being thin rather than being healthy.

If you didn't understand that, your mind is thoroughly fucked up. good luck. you will need it.
